President now expected early Thursday

By Brooks Baehr - bio | email

While the White House is not saying when President Barack Obama will arrive in Honolulu to begin his Christmas vacation, flight restrictions indicate the president will not arrive until early Thursday.

Tuesday night the Federal Aviation Administration changed Temporary Flight Restrictions for Honolulu International Airport.  The restrictions are an indicator of when Mr. Obama is expected to arrive.

The FAA was planning to restrict civilian aircraft from coming within ten miles of Honolulu International Airport between 5:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, December 22.

But Tuesday night the flight restriction time was changed to Thursday, December 23 between 2:45 a.m. and 4:45 a.m.

Honolulu motorists will be getting a break if the president does indeed arrive in Honolulu during that two hour window.  His motorcade would be able to make the drive to Kailua without tying up rush-hour traffic.
