Power restored to Ala Moana areas after fire

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Power has been restored to all buildings in the Ala Moana Shopping Center area.

A fire broke out early Sunday morning at the intersection of Amana Street and Makaloa Street near Ala Moana.

There was a lot of smoke around a Hawaiian Electric Company substation. HECO representatives say water got into areas it shouldn't have within the substation, which led to the fire.

The Honolulu Fire Department used a compressed foam air system to extinguish the fire, once HECO crews turned off electrical transformers.

Fire and HECO crews worked to restore power by around 11:00 a.m. to all buildings in the area. HECO crews are continuing to work on repairs.
