HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two car accidents on Oahu have left one dead, and another critically injured.
Police are investigating a hit and run accident that happened near Wahiawa just after 11:00 p.m. Friday night. A white SUV or pick up truck hit an 18 year old bicyclist from Honolulu, Zachary Manago, who was riding around Oahu with a group. Manago was wearing a helmet and lights, and heading north on Kamehameha Highway, approaching Leileihua Golf Course Road.
Police say the SUV or pick up hit Manago, then fled the scene toward Wahiawa town. Manago was then transported to Wahiawa General Hospital in critical condition. He died at the hospital.
It is unknown if speed, alcohol and drugs were a factor in the crash. Police are asking you to call Crimestoppers at 955-8300, or the Honolulu Police Department if you have any information.
The second accident happened just after midnight, early Saturday morning. A 23 year old man from Mililani was going east on the H-1 Freeway near the Waiawa Road overpass in Pearl City. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt when he lost control of his 2005 gray BMW, and rear-ended a white Ford truck.
He was then ejected onto the shoulder of the freeway and the truck skidded to a stop. The Mililani man was then transported to Queens Hospital in critical condition.
The truck's driver, a 30 year old Kapolei resident, and his passenger, a 17 year old from Kapolei, were both wearing seatbelts, and did not sustain any injuries.
Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
