KANEOHE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Artist Tom "Thor" Thordarson presented an original painting Friday to the Marine Aircraft Group 24's commanding officer Col. Richard Caputo to honor Marines and sailors who work with and fly the CH-53D "Sea Stallion" helicopters at Marine Corps Base Hawaii - Kaneohe Bay.

The painting shows helicopters flying over a barren desert at sunset, dropping lei and other items from Hawaii.

The inspiration for the painting is the contrasting idea of helicopters bringing "Aloha Spirit" to the desert where combat operations are most prevalent, said Thor.

"I am hoping that everyone finds these enchanted places, intriguing contraptions or playful characters I am painting now as much fun to look at, as they are for me to paint" said Thor. "Come by and share some 'Aloha spirit' with me and I will tell you a few magical tales."

Thor has served as the director of attraction development at Universal Studios, Hollywood and then as a Disney Imagineer as a director/senior concept designer.
