State reminding public that beach fires are illegal

NANAKULI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A four year old stepped in some hot coals buried in the sand in Nanakuli this past weekend.

That's why the state is reminding the public that beach fires are illegal in Hawaii whether it is a bonfire or a barbeque pit.

The law was strengthened in 2008 to include a fine of up to $5,000.

To report a beach fire, call the state hotline at 643-DLNR, or call 911.
