Oahu's leeward coast asked to conserve water

HONOLULU (AP) - The Board of Water Supply is asking residents on Oahu's leeward coast to conserve water while it repairs a leak on the water main that supplies about 60 percent of the region's water.

The 24-inch water main along Farrington Highway is being shut down while the agency repairs the leak. Work is expected to continue into Thursday afternoon.

The agency is asking all residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha to use water sparingly and only for priority needs like cooking, drinking and personal hygiene.

The work is not disrupting traffic on Farrington Highway as crews are working off the road.
