HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Police Department and Farmers Insurance Hawaii have teamed up to remind drivers to drive safely during the holidays.
On Wednesday, Farmers Insurance Hawaii staff members participated in a sign waving event with HDP District 1 Community Policing at the intersection of King and Victoria Streets.
That's where a pedestrian was hit and killed earlier this month.
So far 61 people have died in traffic fatalities on Oahu compared to 49 people last year, and 42 in 2008.
For that reason, HPD is increasing law enforcement during the holiday season.
"King Street near Blaisdell Center is a major traffic thoroughfare with cars trying to get into or out of the downtown area as well as the shopping areas near Ala Moana Center," Farmers Insurance Hawaii president Michele Saito said. "Drivers need to pay attention to pedestrians and speed limits during this especially busy time of year on our streets."
