HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Governor Neil Abercrombie celebrated his inauguration Thursday night with a top-notch gala in Waikiki.
The dinner party at Hilton Hawaiian Village was a fundraiser to pay for the inauguration at Iolani Palace this past Monday, which cost an estimated 200,000 dollars.
Plus, the funds will go towards paying for Abercrombie's island-tour. The island tour is meant to confirm Abercrombie as governor on each island.
The new governor says he's happy about tonight's show of support. "Not only is everything paid for, no taxpayer expenses, but we're gonna be able to benefit people who could really use the help."
One of his guests, Judy Lind, from Honolulu, says, "I really didn't come to give money. I came to celebrate and to support Neil and Brian.
Any leftover funds from tonight's event will be donated to the Humane Society and Hawaii's Meals on Wheels.
The price of a table for ten at tonight's event? It ranged from $2500 to $10,000, but there wasn't a limit on what people could spend.
