Surfer injured on North Shore

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man entering the rough water at Sunset Beach on Oahu's North Shore suffered a "traumatic injury" after his surfboard's skeg sliced his throat, according to a spokesperson from the Emergency Medical Service.

The surfer, a male in his 30s, was paddling in the shore break area at about 11:07 a.m. when the accident happened. Bystanders helped the man out of the water and waited with him until emergency crews arrived.

Waves were breaking at between 8 feet and 10 feet at the time.
