HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiian Airlines again tops the on-time rankings of U.S. airlines with a 95% on-time completion record for October, the U.S. Department of Transportation reports.
Among the other airlines serving Hawaii, United had the next best national record with 90%, followed by Alaska Airlines at 88%, while the worst performer, at 83%, was Delta Air Lines.
A flight has to be more than 15 minutes late to be counted by the government as late, and pushing away from the gate is regarded as departure, even if there is a long delay on a taxiway.
The statistics are also broken down by airport. For example, in Los Angeles, Alaska Airlines has a 93% on-time completion record for LAX that beats all other carriers, while Hawaiian's record is a low 82%. In Las Vegas, Hawaiian is best; at SeaTac and SFO, United.
The report also gives, for Hawaii airports, the number of flights in October and on-time departure record:
- Hilo 591, 97%.
- Honolulu 4,335, 70%.
- Kahului 1,675, 94%.
- Kona 970, 97%.
- Lihue 967, 96%.
