WAIANAE (HawaiiNewsNow) - City contractors are moving ahead with the clean up of the Mailiilii stream in Waianae.
This is where City crews placed debris over two years, apparently unaware they needed a permit.
The State later fined the city $1.7 million.
In the past three weeks, City crews have removed more than 3,000 square yards of debris.
They expect to finish in February and are looking into planting native Akulikuli to help prevent erosion along the banks.
