HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now) - Hoakalei Country Club is the Best Golf Course in the United States and Americas, according to The Americas Property Awards 2010 in association with Bloomberg Television. Created by Ernie Els Design, the golf course is part of the award-winning, master-planned Hoakalei Resort community, located in Ewa Beach.
Hoakalei Country Club and golf course is part of a 726-acre master-planned resort community being built on former sugar cane lands on the southwest coast of Oahu.
Hoakalei is the first resort and private country club to be built on the island in 30 years. Once complete, it will feature a full-service marina, luxury hotel, spa, Hawaiian cultural center, shops, restaurants and residences in an oceanfront environment.
The par-72, 7,400-yard championship golf course overlooks Oahu's western coastline and features four sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all levels. Spanning 248 acres of open vistas, the course also offers water features on most holes and strategically placed bunkers throughout to enhance the experience for both the competitive and recreational golfer.
Established 16 years ago, the International Property Awards is dedicated to finding the most outstanding properties across the globe and distinguishing real estate companies with the highest levels of achievement in more than 20 categories. Winners are identified as organizations that continually raise the standards of the real estate industry by providing excellent skills and services, and continually reach new heights in quality and innovation.
"The partnership between Ernie Els Design and Haseko has been a success since its inception. We were extremely impressed by the amount of time the design team took to not only study the golf course site, but also to understand Hawaiian culture," said Toru Nagayama, president at Haseko Development, Inc. "The end result is a beautiful golf course that is truly designed and tailored to reflect a Hawaiian sense of place."
Hoakalei Country Club was also voted one of the best new courses of 2009 by Links magazine. Speaking on the eve of the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa, Ernie Els said, "Hoakalei being recognized again as one of the best new golf courses in the United States is a great honor and very gratifying."
