WAIALAE (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Sony Open in Hawaii is considered as the start of the PGA season.
On Tuesday, the title sponsor announced their time at Waialae is far from done.
The Sony Corporation said they've extended their sponsorship for three more years, taking them through 2014.
Sony has been with the Open for 13 years, taking over for United Airlines who left in 1999.
The Open is one of the richer PGA events with this year's purse at $5.5 million.
Sony General Manager Kay Aoki added that this January's tournament will be a ground breaking one.
"We will be able to broadcast the Sony Open 2011 live in 3D next year. This is the first PGA tournament that will be broadcast live in 3D," Aoki said.
Last year's Sony Open was broadcast into over 560 million homes worldwide.
Next year's tournament will run from Jan. 13-16 and can be seen on the Golf Channel.
