State honors Hawaii woman for HIV/AIDS services

HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii State Department of Health is honoring Hawaii Island HIV/AIDS Foundation Executive Director Georgie Kennedy with an award.

The department's sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS prevention branch presents the Suzanne Richmond-Crum Award each year to an individual for outstanding contributions to providing HIV/AIDS services in Hawaii.

It plans to present the award to Kennedy at a World AIDS Day event on Wednesday in Honolulu.

Kennedy has worked in HIV/AIDS prevention, case management and support for more than 15 years.

Health Director Chiyome Fukino says Kennedy has "consistently committed her support for all aspects of HIV/AIDS prevention and care services on the Big Island and in Hawaii."
