KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - High school football games on Kauai may soon be played under the Friday night lights again.
Workers just installed light shields at the island's three county stadiums.
The shields direct the light down towards the field, and away from the gaze of the endangered Newell Shearwaters.
The seabirds are attracted to bright lights and will die when they crash into them.
The Kauai Interscholastic Federation will now run tests to determine if the shields are working.
