HALEIWA, Oahu (HawaiiNewsNow) - Brian Keaulana and Terry Ahue started the "Hawaiian Water Patrol" in the 70's. After a life-changing brush with death at Waimea Bay, they explored how to use jet skis as rescue craft to get to people faster. Today the Hawaiian Water Patrol provides water-safety personnel for everything from movie sets and shows to professional surf contests. They deal with monster swells during the winter, dangerous shorebreak and rip currents. These life-threatening hazards mean the guys need to be well trained and prepared. Malika finds out what it takes to be on the Hawaiian Water Patrol.
