Medicare recipients urged to review coverage

HONOLULU (AP) - The government's Medicare administrator for Hawaii is encouraging beneficiaries to review their prescription drug plans before the end of the year, with in-state premiums starting at $14.80 a month.

Regional Administrator David Sayen said Tuesday that there are 28 Medicare prescription drug plans in Hawaii, but he cautions that recipients should look beyond premiums.

He says the true cost of drug coverage can only be determined when deductibles, co-payments and coinsurance are included.

Medicare's open enrollment period runs from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31.
