LAIE (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Kahuku community is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Police say the body of 17-year-old Keoni Tafuna was discovered Monday morning at his Laie home.

Tafuna was a senior linebacker on the Red Raider football team. Word spread quickly on campus of his death.

School officials held an assembly to address the situation and to offer any counseling to students.

Tafuna's friends and teammates remembered him as a true leader who had his priorities in order.

"He was a leader overall, he maintained his grades in school, he worked hard on and off the field, carried a 3.8, had very good morals, he was a strong member of his religion," Teammate Chris Thee said. "It's a shock, its a very tragic thing to happen to not only us, but more importantly to his family, I don't the reasons, but he was a vivacious guy, he would do things if someone asked him to do it."

Police have ruled out foul play in his death.
