Big Island fisherman dies from injuries in cliff accident

NORTH KOHALA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Kapaau fisherman who fell along the North Kohala coast died from his injuries on Sunday.

Police say 39-year-old Rockne Ching was rappelling down a 50-foot cliff at "Ladders" fishing spot on Saturday, when he lost his grip and fell 20 feet onto the rocks below.

A fire department helicopter transported Ching to the North Hawaii Community Hospital in critical condition.

Ching was later transferred to Maui Memorial Hospital where he later died.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
