Girl Scout Cookies: Advance Sales

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - You don't have to wait until March to get some of those delicious Girl Scout cookies. April Duncza, assistant manager of Girl Scout Product & Retail Sales says starting today you can buy advance sales cookie tickets and redeem them for the real thing early next year. This early sales program (it lasts until December 24th) is the only one of its kind in the country. Oahu Girl Scouts piloted the program last year.

Tickets will be redeemable starting January 15, 2011 from the refrigerated Girl Scout Cookie® Mobile, another first of its kind in the nation.  A schedule of locations and times will be readily available on the Girl Scouts of Hawai`i website at www.girlscouts-hawaii.org.

Through the Girl Scout Cookie® Program, girls learn firsthand the ins and outs of running their own cookie businesses. A powerful, hands-on entrepreneurial program, girls learn goal-setting and achievement, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. The $700 million Girl Scout Cookie® Program generates immeasurable benefits for girls and communities nationwide.

Shayna Kawamura of Cadette Girl Scout Troop 383 says the key to successful sales is to look the prospective cookie buyer in the eye and speak confidently.

Introduced to Hawai`i in 1917 by Queen Lili`uokalani and Florence Lowe, a Kamehameha School for Girls teacher, Girl Scouts of Hawai`i has more than 5,000 members statewide.
