HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Fire Department will soon have new rescue tools.
Insurance Associates, Inc., Jerry Hay, Inc. and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company are teaming up to present the HFD with a $12,650 grant.
The money will go towards the purchase of a thermal imaging camera, which is one of the most important rescue tools in the fire service.
The thermal imager enables firefighters to "see" through smoke and darkness to quickly locate victims trapped in a building.
It will also enable firefighters to locate hot spots inside walls and extinguish them before they spread.
The grant will be presented to the HFD at Hawaii Casino Night on Thursday.
The public event begins at 6:15 p.m. in the Kona Moku Ballroom at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.
