BOE rejects student meal price hike

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Board of Education says it will not raise the price of meals in public schools.

The final decision came with a sweeping eight to two vote.

Parents would have faced paying one dollar for their child's breakfast, a five cent hike.

And lunch would have jumped by 15 cents to $2.35.

A BOE committee approved the plan earlier this month, but it was shot down by the full board during a meeting in Kona Thursday night.
