WAIKOLOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Animal rescue groups are trying to save so-called "Kona Nightingales."
That's the nickname for the hundreds of wild donkeys that roam Waikoloa, known for their loud braying at night.
They've been wandering into resort areas and across Waikoloa Road.
Several groups including the Kohala Animal Rescue Team have been rounding up the donkeys and keeping them safe.
On Wednesday, they will host a public meeting to help find them new homes.
If you want to adopt a donkey, or learn more about the "Kona Nightingales," you're invited to the Waikoloa Community Church Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
