Whooping cough outbreak has not reached Hawaii

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - So far, a whooping cough outbreak on the mainland has not reached Hawaii.

State Department of Health spokeswoman Janice Okubo says there have been 58 cases of whooping cough in Hawaii this year.

That's compared with 46 cases last year.

More than 6,200 cases of the disease have been reported in California this year and ten infants have died.

In Honolulu, the city Emergency Services Department is offering vaccinations to employees. A third of its personnel got the shot.
