Kailua Neighborhood Board says Target is too big

KAILUA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Kailua Neighborhood Board does not support plans for a new Target.

In a letter to the Mayor, the board recommends that the county and the state not issue any permits.

That's because the 130,000 square foot store exceeds the maximum commercial building size of 90,000 square feet set by the area's sustainable community plan.

But Target has a lease for the lot and the area is already zoned for commercial use. So opposition may not stop the opening which is set for July 2012.
