9-year-old Ewa Beach boy seeking bone marrow match

Mitchell Ganeku Mitchell Ganeku

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry will hold several donor drives during November in hopes of finding a match for an Ewa Beach boy.

Nine-year-old Mitchell Ganeku has been diagnosed with aplastic anemia.

Ganeku's family has been searching for a donor for over a year. Ganeku's Okinawan-Filipino ethnic background makes it hard to find donors.

The HBMDR highly encourages those from Asian-Pacific backgrounds, especially of mixed ethnicities, to register at one of the upcoming drives.

Donors must be between the ages of 18 and 60.

For more information, call the HBMDR at 547-6154 or click HERE.
