55.7 percent of registered Hawaii voters cast ballots in general election

HONOLUU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Voter turnout was a little better in Tuesday's general election compared to the last time Hawaii voted for a governor.

The State Office of Elections says 55.7 percent of Hawaii's 690,748 registered voters cast ballots in the general.

The turnout was higher than the 52.7 percent posted in 2006, the last time island voters chose a governor.

The 2008 general election saw a 66 percent turnout when Barack Obama was running for president.
