HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In the 1st Congressional District Race, Colleen Hanabusa beat out her Republican rival, incumbent Charles Djou.
Among those celebrating her victory at Hanabusa's campaign headquarters were Sen. Daniel Akaka and Sen. Daniel Inouye.
When both of them spoke, Hanabusa got a little teary-eyed. You may remember, national Democrats did not support Hanabusa, yet both Senators pushed for her.
"We were in a position here of being the not-preferred candidate by the power to be in Washington however, what I consider the two who no one will question that they have Hawaii in their hearts are our two senators, Inouye and Akaka. They were always with me throughout this whole time," Hanabusa said.
Here are the final numbers: Hanabusa led Djou with 53 percent of the vote. Djou finished with 46 percent.
