Big Island: Fire crews rescue lost hiker Sunday

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii County Fire Department rescued a lost hiker Sunday night at Mauna Loa Access Road.

Rescue crews received the call just after 7:15 p.m.

According to officials, the 43-year-old male was lost and unable to make it down the trail due to darkness.

HFD personnel contacted the hiker via cell phone and located the him two miles above the observatory.

No injuries were reported.
