Former UH music professor wins composition award for 25th year in a row

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A UH Manoa professor emeritus of music composition and theory has won the 2010-2011 American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers award in the Concert Music Division.

Byron Yasui has won the prestigious ASCAP award in serious music composition for the 25th year in a row.

The award is granted by an independent panel and is based on the unique prestige value of each writer's catalog of original compositions.

Yasui was a faculty member at UH Manoa since 1972. He recently retired in Aug. 2010.

In 1996, Yasui was named one of the nation's 500 most influential Asian Americans in the field of education in AVENUE Magazine.
