HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Friends identified the 45-year-old man who died in a moped accident in Moiliili as local paddler Alfred Streck.

Streck was a coach with the Healani Canoe Club and took care of the novice A and B teams.

Police say he was in the intersection of King and Isenberg Street when he was hit by a car last Thursday night.

He died Saturday morning at the hospital.

The driver was arrested for negligent injury and released pending further investigation.

"I'd call him with a problem. Al, what should I do. He'd make another problem 'cause he'd have 3 good ideas and I was like shoot, which one am I gonna use, you know?," Healani Canoe Club Coach Kea Paiaina said. "Just spreading his aloha was something that he did that I don't think he realized he was doing."

Streck also coached paddling at Saint Francis School.

He is survived by his son Kaden.

A public service will be held Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Magic Island.
