Terror case suspect waives extradition to New York

HONOLULU (AP) - A man arrested in Hawaii on a charge of making false statements in a matter involving international terrorism has waived extradition to New York.

Assistant Federal Public Defender Matthew C. Winter says that during a court hearing Monday in Honolulu, his client, Abdel Hameed

Shehadeh, asked to be transferred as quickly as possible in order to begin preparing his case.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, the 21-year-old Shehadeh remained Wednesday at the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu.

The charge is contained in a criminal complaint unsealed Monday in the Eastern District of New York. If convicted, Shehadeh would face a maximum sentence of eight years imprisonment.
