Mayor Carlisle signs homeless sidewalk ban

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle signed his first bill into law Wednesday, meant to get homeless campers off sidewalks.

The bill bans tents, furniture and other property from public walkways meant to help pedestrians.

The state library system and business groups support the plan.

But the American Civil Liberties Union is opposed to it, and Mayor Carlisle says he expects a lawsuit.

The maximum penalty will be $50.
