Crews put out early morning fire in Kailua-Kona townhomes

KAILUA-KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A fire broke out at the Alii Lani Townhomes just before 3:30 Monday morning.

Flames were spotted self-venting out of a second story mauka apartment bedroom window.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the unit.

It appears no one was in the unit when the fire broke.

All occupants were evacuated from the building.

According to Alii Lani Townhomes resident manager Gary Kraft, one person was injured from the fire. The victim recently underwent surgery and had difficulty breathing during the evacuation. He checked into an emergency room, but was later released.

Damages to the unit and its content are estimated at $70,000.
