Pearl City marching band invited to play in London New Year's Parade

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Next week, the former Lord Mayor of Westminster in London is traveling to Oahu to officially invite the Pearl City High School Marching Band to play in the 25th Annual London New Year's Day Parade and Festival.

The Pearl City High School band along with band director Chad Kamei will receive the invitation on Tuesday, Nov. 2 in the school's Cultural Center from Lord Mayoralty's City of Westminster representative Catherine Longworth.

Longworth will be accompanied by her consort John Longworth along with Robert and Geraldine Bone, the London Parade Festival founders and directors.

Featuring nearly 10,000 performers and with a street audience of nearly 500,000, the parade is one of the biggest events of its kind.

Sixty-five members of the marching band will travel to the event on Jan. 1, 2011. They will also be accompanied by the Halau Hula Olana.
