HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii Island Contractors' Association is backing Republican Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona's bid for governor.
The endorsement was announced Sunday.
The group's legislative committee chairman, Earl Yempuku, says in a statement that Aiona and running mate for lieutenant governor, Lynn Finnegan, are committed to providing a business-friendly environment.
The association's membership includes smaller general and subcontractors, equipment and material suppliers, accountants, insurance carriers, financial institutions and utility companies.
The GOP team is vying against Democratic gubernatorial contender Neil Abercrombie, a former congressman, and his running mate, Brian Schatz.
