HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Public Radio met its $808,000 fall fundraising goal and ended its 10-day pledge drive Friday afternoon to return to regular programming.

The phones were so busy at the end of the drive that although the campaign was halted as soon as the goal was met, volunteers wound up collecting pledges that ran $5,725 over the goal.

The goal was the largest HPR had ever set, and at times the pace of pledging was slow enough to raise the possibility of extra innings. On Wednesday afternoon plans had been made for extending the drive into Saturday morning if necessary. Instead the stations were able to post final results by 4:28 p.m. Friday.

Hawaii Public Radio has two program streams in Honolulu one of which is rebroadcast on other stations on other islands. The organization, which has studios on Kaheka St., is not affiliated with any government, university or other local broadcast entity.
