MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Out-of-state residents will now have to pay a parking fee when they visit Iao Valley State Monument.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks has started charging non-residents and commercial tour vehicles five dollars, per vehicle, to park.
According to the DLNR, Public Utilities Commission-regulated commercial vehicles will pay between $10 and $40 per trip, depending on the amount of passengers.
Hawaii residents who show a local ID will not have to pay a parking fee.
DLNR chairperson Laura Thielen says these entry fees will be used for needed repairs and maintenance to help the park become more self-sufficient.
