Chatting with Billy V: October 19, 2010

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - President Barack Obama said Monday he's appearing on Mythbusters. Obama's appearance on the Discovery Channel show is part of a White House effort to highlight the importance of science, math and engineering as experts warn that low interest in these subjects among U.S. students could hurt the economy. The Obama episode, to air on December 8, reprises an earlier debunking of the 2,000-year-old story that Greek mathematician and engineer Archimedes set fire to an invading Roman fleet using a system of mirrors to focus the sun's rays. Obama said Monday: "I can announce today that I taped a special guest appearance for their show, although I didn't get to blow anything up. I was a little frustrated with that."

TV shows based on single-serving Twitter feeds? Twitter fanatic Ashton Kutcher managed to sell another steaming pile of tweets to CBS. Dear Girls Above Me is a tale of a whiny guy who lives below two obnoxious women, told through 140 character "letters" directed at the "girls above." Each entry begins, "Dear girls above me," and is followed by an eye-rolling snippet overheard from his upstairs neighbors.
