Grounds keeper killed in cemetery backhoe accident identified

MILILANI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A backhoe accident turned fatal at the Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary.

It happened just before 8:00 a.m. Monday.

According to officials, 42-year-old grounds keeper Robert Ichioka fell out of the backhoe and was pinned under its roof.

Fire crews were immediately called to the scene.

The 22-year-employee was pronounced dead just after 8:30 a. m.

Ichioka, of Waipahu, leaves behind a wife.

The Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary released this statement:

"We are devastated by the accident and our prayers go to his family," said Eadean Buffington, Vice President of Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary. "We are investigating the circumstances to find out what happened this morning," she continued.
