Waipahu wastewater spill secured, public advised to stay out of canal

WAIPAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Warning signs were posted Friday morning after 8,250 gallons of wastewater spilled into a canal from the manhole on Lehua Way.

The state Clean Water Branch said the spill happened Thursday at 3:15 p.m. The spill was secured by 6:00 p.m.

The City said the wastewater came from an eight-inch clay pipe that was clogged with grease.

The public is encouraged to stay out of the canal running between Waipahu field and Ted Makalena Golf Course.
