Advocates for blind walk around Hawaii Capitol

HONOLULU (AP) - Blind people and their supporters are marching at the Hawaii Capitol.

The 18th annual White Cane Safety Walk on Friday is being held to raise awareness about the white cane as a mobility and safety tool for blind and visually impaired pedestrians.

The walk is part of White Cane Safety Awareness Day, a national event observed since 1964.

Besides the blind, other walkers include representatives from the Vocational Rehabilitation and Services for the Blind Division and Hoopono Services for the Blind, both part of the state Department of Human Services.
