KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kauai paddler Luke Evslin is expected to make a full recovery after a gruesome accident at last weekend's Molokai Hoe.
When the Kauai High grad and his crew jumped into the water for the first change, turbulence pulled Evslin under one of the escort boats.
He was struck multiple times by the propeller.
He remembers thinking at the time that he had been cut in half.
Luke was medivaced to Maui Memorial Hospital where three surgeons worked on him at the same time.
Doctors say Luke's vital organs and arteries were spared.
He did suffer a chipped pelvis and spine, but he's already using a walker to get around.
