WAIANAE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Here at home, a new and unique Oahu community is combining Native Hawaiian traditions with new energy technology.
The 19-unit "Kaupuni" development in Waianae valley was created by the Department of Hawaiian Homelands.
Three and four bedroom homes have solar water heaters and photo-voltaic roof panels.
Residents pay no electricity costs.
Homes go for up to $260,000, but the community is already sold out and residents move in, in December.
