NORFOLK (HawaiiNewsNow) - The U.S. Marshals Service announced two Hawaiian superferries have been sold at auction.
The U.S. Maritime Administration purchased the Huakai and Alakai superferries for $25 million each.
After a bankruptcy judge ruled that the owner of the superferries, Hawaii Superferry Inc., could abandoned the ferries to the lenders, the administration repossessed the ferries and transported them to Norfolk.
The U.S. Maritime Administration says the ferries will stay in Norfolk for now.
They also expressed the possibility of selling the ferries to the Navy, which showed interest in the vessels last year.
