KILAUEA (HawaiiNewsNow) - On Thursday afternoon, a white van owned by a local business was destroyed after the engine caught fire.
The driver was the sole occupant in the vehicle, and escaped unharmed.
According to officials, the driver was heading north on Kuhio Highway around 12:30 p.m. That's when he noticed a burning smell and smoke emitting from the engine.
The driver immediately pulled over to the side of the road and exited the van.
When fire crews arrived to the scene, the fire had engulfed the vehicle.
Firefighters had the fire under control within five minutes.
The fire was extinguished at 1:04 p.m.
Vehicle damages, including its contents, is estimated at $12,000.
