HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii weekly jobless claims are up in the latest weekly count by the state, but remain below the levels of the first half of 2010.
The state Department of Labor & Industrial Relations, counting claims from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2, tallied 2,192 first-time claims, up from 1,994 the previous week, and 17,240 total claims up from 16,242 the previous week.
There were exceptions: first-time claims fell in the Hilo office, total claims fell on Maui, and both kinds fell on Molokai. Total claims were last higher than this on the first week of September while new claims were much higher in July.
A year ago at the same time, new claims were typically above 2,400 and total claims were above 20,000.
