Daughter faces attempted murder charge

HONOLULU (AP) - An Oahu woman who police say had a suicide pact with her 79-year-old mother is facing an attempted murder charge.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports 48-year-old Janet Wakimura made an initial appearance in District Court on Thursday.

She was arrested Wednesday upon her release from The Queen's Medical Center. She had been held in hospital's psychiatric ward.

Her mother, Yoshi Wakimura, was stabbed in the neck with a kitchen knife Sept. 29. The injury wasn't life-threatening.

According to police, Janet Wakimura said she was tired of caring for her mother. They say the younger woman also said she and her mother had an agreement that if one died, the other should also.

She told police she couldn't stab herself, and instead called for help.
