HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)-Supporters of Special Olympics Hawai'i will be flying high when they go Over the Edge of Waikîkî, an extreme fundraiser presented by the Sheraton Waikîkî's bar, Edge of Waikîkî. This year, Special Olympics Hawai'i will hold its second annual event, October 15, allowing 120 thrill-seekers experience the adrenaline rush of rappelling 31 stories down the Sheraton Waikîkî.
"Last year's Over the Edge of Waikîkî fundraiser received such an outpouring of support that we exceeded our wildest expectations by raising more than $172,000 that allowed us to hold our annual Holiday Classic, which was in danger of being canceled due to lack of funding," said Nancy Bottelo, Special Olympics Hawai'i president. "We are continuously asking our athletes to push themselves to the limits – and this event invites supporters to also open themselves up to new experiences and challenge their fears."
Each participant must raise a minimum of $1,000 in donations to benefit Special Olympics Hawai'i by the day of the fundraiser, be at least 18 years of age by October 15, and weigh less than 300 pounds to participate. To sign up, participants can register online at www.specialolympicshawaii.org.
