HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Acting Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell says he plans to sign off on a bill banning most consumer fireworks on Oahu.

Last Wednesday, the City Council voted seven to two, to pass Bill 34 which will ban most novelty items.

People can still get a $25 permit to buy up to 5,000 firecrackers for certain holidays and for cultural uses.

The measure is now going through a legal vetting process.
